so, very self-explanitory, what is, or are in your opinion the most annoying Christmas songs of all time and why?
For me it's got to be rudolf the red-nosed raindeer, or santa clause is coming to town simply on the amount of times their played, and sang. I guess you can toss in jingle bells in as well.
Christmas shoes *puke*
Only thing you can do when that stuff comes on in a public place is substitute the words for your own:
Sir I wanna buy these boots,
For my papa here,
He's gonna kick some ass tonight
...
So make sure they're steel-toed tonight.
Rudolph, hands down!
All of them.
The John Lennon "...and so it is Christmas..." .. guess it is "War is over".
Firstly because the lyrics go "a new year just begun" .. no, new year starts a week after Christmas, thank you very much .. that inaccuracy just always bugged me.
Secondly, YOko Ono .. oh no, singing ... does that need any further complication. With all due respect to the woman, I am sure she has done a lot of great things for peace and all that, but she should not sing, not under any circumstances whatsoever.
The Polyphonic Sprea has a decent cover version of the song, which still does not address the inconsisten cy of Christmas and new year's being separate occasions.
I agree with Christmas Shoes. That thing is so sappy I could get tooth decay. Ugh.
The other one I can't stand is, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. No, it isn't. In fact, most people I know find Christmas quite stressful, not the cheerful time that song makes it out to be. So the song annoys me, because it rings so untrue.
I think Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey is the absolute worst. What does a donkey have to do with Christmas anyway? Not to mention how annoying the donkey sounds in the song. It's totally unnecessary.
Oh YES! I thought I had suppressed the Dominic the Donkey song... thanks for bringing it up.
I have to say as well that "All I Want for Christmas is You" is an incredibly annoying song
I've been thinking of new Christmas song titles after global warming .. such as
I'm dreaming of a green Christmas
Frosty the puddle
"the Weather outside is frightful, but my AC is delightful"
.. let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.
Summer Wonderland
LMAO brew!
That is simply priceless....
Dominic the Donkey? WTF? I have never heard of that one, and even the title sounds annoying! i'm very glad I've missed this particular one.
love the christmas shoes:)
actually seen the movie that goes with that.
my most anoying christmas song is probably jingle bells followed closely by " i wish it could be christmas everyday" by wizard, we wish you a merry christmas, and silent night.
Wow, how can Silent Night be annoying? It's just simply pretty (well, depends who sings it, if Christina Ag sings it like she's having an orgasm, .. well, I am not a violent man, but it sure makes me want to get my pepper spray and ducktape at least, not to mention ear plugs).
When done correctly, stately and without any unnecessary flerishes, it's as beautiful a piece of music as there is.
Of course, that being said, too many people have butcherred the song on their cover albums, and very few have got it right.
An unlikely source of quality Silent Night is Brad Paisley.
Nobody has yet mentioned the two most timeless, classic Christmas songs EVER....
Santa Baby
I want a Hippopotomus for Christmas...
Those are pretty annoying
I agree about the Hipopotamus song, especially as sung by Cindy Lauper. I think thhe most annoying Christmas song I ever heard was called Arbo Lito (although I probably butchered the spelling). Tere's an entirely Spanish version and then a version where only the chorus and the arbo lito part is Spanish. It's a girl singing about the christmas tree as she grows up. That song would have to be followed closely by either the Chipmunk Christmas song or Little Drummer Boy.
Silent Night is good if the players/singers do interesting things with the chords. You can play it simply or complex. As for my least favorite, it would be the Little Drummer Boy. It's just not very interesting musically, not much of a tune. Also, I tend to avoid all the sad Christmas songs like White Christmas or I'll be Home for Christmas. I understand they were written in a certain context, but I just prefer upbeat music during these times. Actually this year I didn't listen to much music, not even out of my own collection and watched movies.
Part of the thing with Christmas music on the whole is that most artists are drawing from a particular set of traditional songs, both sacred and secular. Some prefer to play things strictly by the book and others like to play with things a little or a lot. You can get tired of any Christmas song if you're overexposed to it. For example, although my favorite sorts of Christmas songs are novelty songs, the one about Grandma getting run over by the reindeer has worn quite thin on me.
I think my favorite parody version of that song was Osama got run over by a Reindeer. But by the time last year's Cristmas was over I was sic to death of that Mariah Carey Christmas CD, and I'm already not a Mariah fan as it is so that didn't help either.
For me, one of the worst Christmas songs is 'Do They Know It's Christmas' by Band Aid. It's super annoying and really depressing.
Don't think I've ever heard that one.
Hmmm, Silent Night is one of my favorites. but to each their own.
Another one I forgot to mention is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Or perhaps, "Where are You Christmas," from the movie the Grinch.
I haven't heard the latter but I agree about the former. I remember when my brother, sister and I were kids we had a record that was John Denver and te Muppets and one of the songs was Have yourself a Merry little Christmas as sung by Rolf.
awwww! but I like about just all of them, just not in june. haha! play them at christmas and it's all good. I like the older stuff as usual though.
